Nebraska Researchers to Study Two Physical Therapy Approaches for Children with Cerebral Palsy

Nebraska Researchers to Study Two Physical Therapy Approaches for Children with Cerebral Palsy

A research center in Nebraska joins efforts to study physical therapy in infants and toddlers with cerebral palsy. This study will analyze data from two physical therapy approaches to determine which type best promotes a child’s development. Children up to 24 months that have cerebral palsy or are at risk for the condition will participate in the study.

The two types of therapy the children will randomly be assigned are the START-Play method (Sitting Together and Reaching to Play), which focuses on sitting, reaching, and motor skills through play; or the MORE-PT method (Movement, Orientation, Repetition and Exercise Physical Therapy), which targets movement, posture control, strength and flexibility. The two different approaches aim to determine which method encourages a child’s readiness to learn. Researchers aim to recruit 150 infants and toddlers, following their progress over the course of 12 months.
