Support National Brain Injury Awareness Month
Support National Brain Injury Awareness Month
During the month of March, we support those impacted by brain injuries and the challenges they face. We can also spread awareness for Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), a type of brain injury that occurs when the brain does not receive enough oxygen for a period of time, as well as cerebral palsy, which affects 1-4 out of 1,000 infants born in the United States. Brain injuries such as HIE may result in permanent brain damage and may cause a number of disabilities.
The Brain Injury Association of America’s #MoreThanMyBrainInjury campaign aims to encourage people to share their stories and break free from being defined by their disabilities. Here, Nicole Jefferson shares her story of her daughter’s birth that led to baby Alana’s diagnosis of cerebral palsy.
