Young Athlete with Cerebral Palsy Excels in Sports Post-Surgery

An 11-year old boy from Washington who lives with cerebral palsy has overcome many obstacles in his life. Born prematurely, he has struggled to walk due to his condition. After undergoing a successful dorsal rhizotomy surgery last year, however, he is thriving in sports such as sled hockey and wheelchair basketball. In July 2021, just months after his surgery, he set a national record in javelin throwing at the Move United Junior Nationals.

Rehabilitation sessions are rigorous for the pre-teen, but his physical therapy has helped not only his athletics but overall strength, endurance, and balance. His involvement in athletics at ParaSport Spokane has helped motivate him to keep going to his physical therapy, the boy’s mother said.
